Flying lessons in York! We have vouchers for 30 and 60-minute trial flights in two and four-seater light aircraft from Breighton Airfield, which lies just north-east of Selby.
It’s a great little airfield to fly from. Back in the day when it was known as RAF Breighton, the airfield was pretty huge, serving as a heavy bomber base in WW2 and a nuclear missile launch site during the Cold War.
Nowadays, this private aerodrome uses a grass airstrip, but once you get up in the air on your flight lesson, you’ll see the vestiges of those military times, with the tarmac runways and taxiways still clearly visible from above.
And we have to say, there’s always lots to see when you go flying at Breighton. From the array of resident and visiting aircraft both large and small, modern and vintage, to the wonderful Yorkshire countryside and Humber estuary views, there’s an awful lot going for this discrete aerodrome!
Your flight experience will be personal to you. In the pre-flight briefing with your pilot instructor, you’ll chat about what you’ll be doing and discuss a flight path. And of course, this is a lesson, so you will be able to fly the plane yourself.
The fleet at this flying school includes two seater Aquilas, alongside Cessna and Piper four-seater planes. If you go for the bigger aircraft, there’s a chance you’ll be able to invite a guest to join you as an observer during your lesson.
