On these microlight flights in Mid-Wales you'll see how microlights come in all shapes and sizes! We are offering 30 and 60-minute flights in modern light sports aircraft out of Mid-Wales Airport in Powys at this small and friendly microlight training school.
Based near Welshpool, this training centre boasts two different types of microlight. The Ikarus C42 is a popular trainer aircraft renowned for being easy to fly, stable and comfortable too. It's a closed-cockpit microlight with a high wing, which looks more like your typical Cessna-type light aircraft, but it is still classed as a microlight. That's because it comes in at under the 450kg weight limit, thanks to the incredibly simple tubular aluminium weight-saving frame.
The other microlight based at Mid Wales is the Eurostar EV97. The low-wing design gives this light aircraft a very sporty look. Czech designed and built, the Eurostar cruises effortlessly at 90mph with two passengers on board. And in fact, you can easily go cross country on a full tank. What's more, they actually run on standard unleaded petrol! (no, we didn't know that either!).
Whether you'll be going up in the Eurostar or the Ikarus, you're sure to have fun discovering the delights of light sport aviation. It really is like nothing else. The aircraft are so spritely in the air. The responsive handling makes them a delight to fly and, indeed, own. As they say here, these types of microlight are: 'highly respected for dependability and for the low strain it places on the pilot's wallet'!
Talking of pilots, it will most likely be Chief Microlight Flying Instructor Nick James who will be taking you up. He's been microlighting since 1997 and loves nothing more than imparting that enthusiasm onto keen passengers such as yourself. So much so, that, if you're up for it, you'll be able to take the controls of the microlight and actually have a go at flying yourself during your flight. Even youngsters can get in on the act, as these microlight flights out of Mid-Wales Airport are open to anyone 14 years or above.
