Meets the Ferrets in Essex! Spend time with these curious little creatures at their home near Saffron Walden on the edge of Epping Forest.
Within easy reach of London and Essex, ‘Forest Lodge' is a friendly miniature zoo and animal experience centre. It is home to a whole menagerie of animals (mostly adopted and rescued), including these fantastic ferrets.
They are super smart animals and really quite sociable. Ferrets can be lively and mischievous too, as they burrow, dig and chew - hence the expressions ‘to ferret around' when you're being nosy!
During your time at the centre, your ranger host will take you to meet the resident ferrets. You will hear lots about these animals. They can sometimes get bad press for being too naughty and even a little bit stinky, but they are actually very sociable and clever.
Amazingly, ferrets can recognise and acknowledge their own names, so make sure you call out for your ferret and see if they turn to look at you, or even come over!
You also might not know that ferrets are carnivores. Their ideal menu would consist of little rodents and rabbits, which might seem a little like they are eating their distant cousins. In fact, they can't digest anything other than meat, so you have to be really careful what you feed your pet ferret.
After taking lots of selfies with your favourite new ferret friend, you'll still have time to explore the mini zoo and see the other residents at this Essex centre, as your Meet the Ferrets ticket includes general entry.
