By his own admission, blacksmith Owen has always loved ‘tinkering' in a workshop, making things, taking things apart and putting them back together again. A degree in Industrial Design, a career in Graphic Design and a passion for blacksmithing followed. Now Owen is a full-time blacksmith, with a full order book.
This skilled artist blacksmith's work is really lovely. Owen has carved out a name for himself with his outdoor cooking range. We adore the fire pits (and so does everyone else, as they regularly sell out). And the kitchen knife collection shows that forged pieces can be practical and artistic too.
As it'll be just you on these blacksmith experiences, all the teaching is geared towards you and what you'd like to learn. Owen will go through the basic tools used, which includes firing up the gas and coke forges.
You'll then make a start on forging your very own piece, using traditional blacksmithing methods that have been handed down from craftsmen to apprentices over thousands of years - and they still bring excellent results even in today's automated, mass-production world!
Make no mistake, heating the metal until it's red hot and then hammering it into shape is hard work. You will need to put some serious elbow grease into it. But the end result is so, so satisfying, knowing you lovingly crafted it yourself.
