Head into the countryside for a blacksmith experience in Norfolk! Down a quiet lane in Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, you'll find Daniel in his blacksmithing workshop at the heart of a working farm. Here's your chance to spend the day with him learning blacksmithing.
Skilled craftsman Daniel studied artistic blacksmithing and contemporary crafts. He even travelled to Japan to study at the Tokyo University of Arts, leading to his minimalist, Wabi-Sabi approach to blacksmithing (that's to say ‘beauty in imperfection'), which heightens creativity.
As a teacher, Daniel is calm, patient and knowledgeable. These classes are open to all, whether you have zero blacksmithing experience, or have already dabbled in the art of hand-forging metals. Group sizes are capped at four, so you'll always have loads of hands-on time.
All the gear you need is provided - and much of it is from local suppliers and sources, which really roots the whole experience in the picturesque surroundings of the Norfolk Broads.
As for what you'll make on your day course with Daniel? Well, it's up to you. Previous students have forged anything from bottle openers and hooks, to neat little key rings. You'll have plenty of time to perfect your piece - and, of course, you'll be taking it home with you to admire and/or use forever more!
