What Can I Expect

Want to fly a helicopter in Surrey? This helicopter academy at Redhill Airport includes a training school, charter, sales and maintenance operations, all within easy reach of London, Kent and surrounding areas. We are offering vouchers for lessons in two and four-seater helicopters. 

Flying has been happening at this spot in Surrey since the early 1930s. Today Redhill is a busy CAA licensed general aviation airport, specialising in helicopters. There's even a popular brasserie and coffee shop in one of the hangars - and that's always a sign of a good airport!

Hangar One is where this helicopter company operates its charter and training business. There's an impressive fleet of choppers in residence, including Robinsons and Eurocopters. For these lessons you have the choice of heading out in a two-seater R22 or a four-seater R44. If you go for the four-seat, you can invite up to two to join you as passengers.

On the ‘Discovery' experience, you'll enjoy a 25-minute flight, extended to 40-minutes on the ‘Explorer'. During your time in the air you'll be encouraged to be as hands-on as you like, making turns and climbs in your heli. There might even be time to try that very special skill of hovering. It's not as easy as it looks!

In addition to the actual flight time, every helicopter experience at Redhill includes a briefing. This gives you time in the classroom to meet your pilot instructor and run through what you can expect before, during and after your flight. The flight path you'll take will be discussed too. Perhaps you'll stay local to the Surrey hills, or head over towards the Weald of Kent area? Wherever you go, you'll be treated to amazing aerial views of the town and country landscape below.

When Is It Available

• All flights are subject to availability and weather conditions
• Selected weekdays and weekends throughout the year

Suitable For

• Minimum age 14
• Under 18s must be accompanied on the airfield by an adult
• R22 weight restrictions: maximum 17 stone (please advise if over 15st when booking your date)
• R44 weight restrictions: maximum 21 stone
• Participants of the 4 seater lessons may take up to 2 spectators in the helicopter (weight permitting and at the discretion of the instructor) Please advise if over 15 stone

Spectators

• Spectators are welcome to come and watch your departure and arrival
• If you choose a four seater voucher you may be able to invite up to two interested observers to watch the lesson from the rear seat (at the discretion of the pilot on the day)
