Take virtual flying to new heights with this high-tech Spitfire simulator in Newcastle! Unique in the North East of England, this flight sim operator has created a Spitfire sim that'll have you believing you're a fully fledged RAF fighter pilot.
The Vickers Supermarine Spitfire needs no introduction. It's probably one of the most famous planes on the planet. It's the iconic symbol of the fight for freedom during the Second World War. There's no doubting this formidable fighter's role in the Battle of Britain, when hundreds of young pilots took to the skies to protect Great Britain.
This experience in Newcastle gives you a taste of all that heroism and drama. It's your chance to be the courageous pilot of a Spitfire in a simulator for a 30 or 60-minute experience. It's all incredibly realistic, as the simulator is a faithful full-sized copy of a Spitfire cockpit.
Squeeze yourself into the snug pilot's seat and the first thing you'll notice is the ring control stick. It's a genuine, original Spitfire part. Known as a ‘spade grip', it's quite common in war birds, but nothing like the controls in a modern aircraft. Pilot's tell us that they are ultra responsive, so even the lightest touch can literally send you and your Spit into a spin. Lucky then, that this Spitfire world you'll be flying is simulated, so no harm done if you do spiral out of control!
The blind flying panel in front of you is also an authentic Spitfire part. These are the instruments used when flying at night or in bad weather, when Visual Flight Rules (VFR) (ie being able to see where you're going) was not possible. All the readings needed to fly the plane by instrument (Instrument Flying Rules - IFR) were shown on the gauges and dials - but it must've been pretty scary stuff not being able to see where you were going!
As for the views you'll be seeing, the 300 degree external screens will be projecting your all round cockpit views in 4K. It's totally immersive, thrilling and a true test of your piloting skills.
Book your 30 or 60-minute Spitfire simulator session in Newcastle and prepare to fly (virtually) in the famous WW2 fighter that won the hearts of the pilots and the British public.
