Sean and the team have a great set-up in the countryside near Kings Lynn. The covered, all-weather multi-target throwing arena boasts five lanes, accommodating up to 10 axe throwers at once.
You'll start off your experience by learning the basics; that's to say how to pick up, handle and then release your axe. There are a few essential things to know, such as stance, whether you hold the axes with one or two hands and how you throw. This will all be explained and demonstrated by your expert axe throwing host.
Then it's over to you. Starting with custom-designed and made Throwing Angels, you'll soon get a feel for these light-weight, easy-to-throw angels. Once you're hitting the wood, you'll try classic Norse Viking Tomahawk axes, which are bigger and heavier, landing with a pleasing thud. Then it's the biggest of them all, the Double-bit axe. Used for tree-felling, these big tools are the real deal.
Now you've mastered the basic techniques, your coach will move on to more advanced throwing techniques, so you can get closer to the bullseye by increasing your throwing precision. It's not easy, but you'll have great fun trying!
These axe throwing sessions in Norfolk come to a close with a mini ‘Mountain Man' competition. You'll go head-to-head throwing a set number of axes at ringed targets, with each one representing a number of points. If your target has two blue high-level dots, they're your ‘killshots' and you'll get extra points if you hit those spot-on. Book your place now and get ready to chuck the axes!
