What Can I Expect

Coastal photography - a weekend surrounded by glorious seascapes! You and your camera will join professional photographer Alan Ranger learning to take amazing landscape photos of the Great British coastline.

We are offering vouchers to attend one of a trio of themed weekend workshops dedicated to photography. Coastal locations include Suffolk, Devon and Dorset. All have been chosen by Alan for their variety of landscapes, natural and manmade features - all of which are very photogenic!

In Suffolk, the shoreline is the main attraction. Imposing piers, rows of cute beach huts and small fishing harbours all make up the charm of Suffolk's coastal lifestyle. This is where learning about long exposures comes into its own.

Down in Dorset you'll be exploring the Jurassic coast. A highlight for any photographer is Durdle Door. It's an iconic image of this part of the coast. Alan will help you to find your own photographic style to capture it, encouraging you to experiment with the abstract and black and white.

Over in North Devon, your photography weekend is centred around Hartland Quay. We're talking fierce tides, dramatic rocks, rugged shorelines and sandy beaches. All of which make for fabulous photos.

From sweeping sandy beaches and sand dunes, to waterfalls and swirling tides, you'll encounter the very best of this country's coastline during these delightful weekends away. Everything has been organised and arranged for you and Alan, as your photographer tutor, is also a great host.

What's Included

• Residential photography workshop visiting some amazing spots 
• B&B or hotel accommodation – single occupancy basis (double occupancy available on request)
• Evening meal reservations booked for you to enjoy a friendly and relaxing evening with the group (food not included unless stated)
• One to one tuition throughout the event
• Optional sunset/sunrise shoots - dependant on conditions and wishes of participants
• Photograph a variety of scenes to learn and practice your skills
• Visit approximately 2-3 locations a day, subject to the wishes of the group, time, weather and other factors
• Travel to and from locations is included
• A detailed itinerary will be provided 5-7 days ahead of workshop that will take into account weather and any other local seasonal factors
• You will form part of a small group of up to 4 participants

Suffolk Coast (7th - 9th February 2025)

• 3 day workshop practicing and learning long exposure and the art of black and white photography
• 2 nights accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis
• Likely locations: Southwold, Felixstowe, Lowestoft, Walberswick, Dunwich, Orford, Sudbourne, Aldeburgh, Woolbridge

Dorset Coast  (4-6 April 2025)

• Three -day  around Durdle Door and surrounding areas to make coastal images. Not limited to just the classic seascapes we can cover any genre or style of photography, beit B&W or abstract this prehistoric coastline offers lots of variety and scope to suit all interests
• 3 nights accommodation and evening meal included
• Likely locations: Durdle Door, River Frome, Corfe Castle, Studland, Swanage, Lulworth Cove, Kimmeridge

Devon Seascapes  ( 20th - 23rd February 2025)

• Capture amazing shots of Hartland Quay in North Devon, one of the UK's most dramatic seascape locations
• 3 nights accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis
• Other likely locations include: Bude, Clovelly, Sandymouth, Croyde, Welcombe Bay, Saunton Sands, Coombesgate, Woolacombe, Westward Ho

Suffolk Coast

Devon Seascapes

• Thursday 20th - Sunday 23rd February 2025

• Friday 4th - 6th April 2025

Suitable For

• Under 16's welcome but must be accompanied by a participating adult
• Workshops are suitable to any level of experience as 1 to 1 tuition is provided throughout
• A good, general level of fitness is required

• Not suitable for spectators

Anything Else

• An additional nights accommodation can be arranged for an additional charge payable when booking your date (subject to availability)
• There is an option (with a supplementary fee - £50) to travel from and back to Coventry with your tutor, payable when booking your date

Equipment required for the workshop:

• Your camera, fully charged battery and spare batteries if you have them
• Additional memory card(s) in case required
• Remote Release Cable to take shots without touching the camera
• Any lenses are suitable - zooms, wide-angle and macro
• Tripod (essential) One can be hired for £20 payable when booking your date if required
• A polarising filter is useful for removing glare and reflections but not essential
