Learn the art of silver clay jewellery making on these three and six-hour workshops in Hull! Join silversmith Richard in his studio on the edge of Hull’s Alexandra Dock area for these fun and creative hands-on experiences.
What is making jewellery out of silver clay all about? That’s the first question most of you ask! Precious metal clay is a heavy, squishy clay full of silver particles, held together with organic material.
It is a super malleable substance, so you can carve, sculpt, file and mould the shapes and designs you want. Then using a special firing technique, you literally burn off all that organic matter to leave you with a solid silver piece of jewellery.
The classes are aimed at beginners, so you will be making lovely things like pendants, which are eye-catching and stylish. Richard will supply you with a silver chain and bail too, so you can create your very own bespoke necklace.
Throughout your workshop, you will be shown the various techniques and skills to be able to form your pieces of jewellery, including cutting, the texturing and refining of that silver clay, ready for firing.
And the final part of the puzzle is indeed learning how to torch-fire your own pieces! Richard will show you how this is done, so that you will be able to fire and take, all being well, the pieces home with you, to proudly wear and show off to your family and friends.
All the materials and tools are included for you on these silver clay jewellery making experiences. Book your place on a course and learn how amazing precious metal clays are!
