Brilliant wing walking in Bedfordshire! Head down to Old Warden, the airfield of the Shuttleworth Collection, for a thrilling flight on the top wing of a Boeing Stearman biplane. It's going to be the most amazing 10 minutes of your life.
Old Warden aerodrome, near Biggleswade and the village of Shuttleworth, is a quiet corner of Bedfordshire. The airfield is well-known in aviation circles for the events and fly-ins it hosts. The Shuttleworth Museum houses lots of vintage planes, cars, tractors, bikes etc.
There is also lots to see all over the 60-acre site, including ornate gardens, play areas, the Shuttleworth country house, lakeside walks and more.
The day you visit will be the day you become a bonafide wing walker of Bedfordshire! No long training sessions in advance, all the safety talk and demos will be done on the day itself, before your flight.
The technicians on site will coach you ready for the climb up onto the wing (it's about 10ft up!). You will be safely and securely strapped into the bespoke wing walking harness and when you give the OK sign, the propeller will start turning, the engine bursts into life and it's chocks away!
Bouncing along the grass runway you might well be thinking : “What on earth am I doing up here?”...But once the ground falls away, you lift into the sky and you realise you are flying you will love it. Free like a bird and grinning like a Cheshire cat!
Your skilled pilot will be doing low-level fly pasts and turns. It will be your very own wing walking display and you're the star of the show, standing right up there on the wing.
Wing walking in Bedfordshire at Old Warden is available during the main flying season, from March to November. Buy your voucher online now and get booked in for your flight on the wing!
