Combine a fire engine driving experience near Lutterworth with some military vehicle driving and you've got yourself a fab driving day out in Leicestershire! It's all about the heavy utility vehicles and tanks on these sessions at a purpose-built off-road track.
It's destination Husband's Bosworth for these fire engine and military multi-drives. When we say fire engine, it's not like anything you'd see on the public roads. This particular fire truck had a specific role - it was a fire tender at Bournemouth Airport for many years.
Built in the early 1990s, this Protector fire engine was purpose-designed to do the fire and rescue job at busy airfields. It has a huge onboard water tank and a foam tank to supply the main firefighting tool, which is the powerful cannon sitting above the cab, capable of projecting 1,000l of water a minute.
Inside the cab it's pretty basic in terms of driver comfort and you'll notice you're positioned pretty high up in there, but also you're in the middle! The dashboard is way bigger than a normal car or truck too, with colour-coded buttons galore.
As well as driving the fire engine, this Leicestershire venue also has a fleet of interesting military vehicles and (depending on the voucher chosen) you'll be able to drive one or two of them on your combined experience.
They are all genuine ex-service, so you could find yourself testing your mettle in a battlefield Land Rover, an armoured personnel carrier tank, a 4x4 utility truck or even a fully-tracked Hagglund used by the Special Forces!
You'll have around 20-minutes in each vehicle and with an instructor by your side, you'll soon get to grips with all the different driving techniques needed to be able to get these military machines moving. As you can see, this fire engine experience in Lutterworth is all about the airport tender and a whole lot more!
