On a day to day basis, this centre trains people who want to work as commercial drivers. If you want to drive a bus on the public roads, you need PCV training (that's Passenger Carrying Vehicle to you and us!). But for these unique taster experiences, just a normal driving licence will do.
You will be driving an Alexander-Dennis Enviro 200 single decker bus. You'll see these modern, low-emission buses in town centres, airports and country routes in Kent and around the UK. And the chances are, if you've ridden on a bus it could have been an Enviro!
We have to say, learning to drive a bus (even if you are on private roads away from other traffic) is quite different to a car. They're about three times longer for a start! The Enviro is fully automatic though, so with your expert PCV instructor by your side, you'll soon get the hang of it.
You will spend around 10-minutes perfecting the art of reversing your bus. You will then have a very fantastic 20-minutes to be a bus driver as you head off around the tarmac road layout with the driving centre.
If you go for the 45-minute experience, you get around 15-minutes to ride as a passenger, whilst your instructor driver takes you for a spin in the bus on the public roads around the local area.
