River Kayaking Adventure for Two in Somerset

Get ready for a river kayaking experience that combines stunning landscapes with serene paddling on Somerset's beautiful River Brue! This adventure offers half and full-day tandem kayak trips, allowing you to glide along the gentle waters while soaking in the sights and sounds of this unique environment.

Your kayaking journey begins at Wall Eden Farm, an easily accessible outdoor adventure center located near Highbridge, just off the M5 and nestled in the heart of the expansive Somerset Levels. Here, you’ll discover the ancient wetlands that gracefully feed into the river as it winds its way to Glastonbury.

As you paddle, you’ll traverse a river steeped in history and nature. The Brue has served as an important waterway since Neolithic times, and during World War II, it was strategically significant as part of the GHQ defense line. Keep your eyes peeled for historical remnants, including the many pillboxes that dot the coastline.

This area is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, with a bounty of birds such as swans, herons, and swallows surrounding you. Managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust as the 'Brue Valley Living Landscape,' the wetlands are preserved to enhance their natural beauty and biodiversity.

Our tandem kayaks are sit-on-top models, making them extremely stable and ideal for beginners. After a quick safety briefing and equipment check at the water's edge, you'll be ready to set off on your own adventure. Navigate past charming spots like River Bridge, Westhay, Oxenpill, and the historic site of Meare, where one of the country’s best-preserved prehistoric villages awaits.

What makes these tours truly special is their flexibility. Paddle at your own pace; you're in control of your experience! Whether you choose to return early or make your way all the way to Glastonbury, you can enjoy the journey as you see fit. Along the way, you might stumble upon a delightful riverside pub for a quick refreshment or find the perfect spot for a picnic. This outing guarantees a blend of fun, relaxation, and the great outdoors!

What's Included

• Explore the Somerset countryside by a tandem kayak for the two of you
• All equipment is provided including kayak, paddles, buoyancy aid and dry bag out
• Short health and safety briefing
• Kayak along the River Brue towards Glastonbury, through miles of beautiful countryside
• You may see kingfishers, herons, otters and other wildlife along the way
• Travel at your own pace and can turn round and head back to the centre when you wish

Suitable For

• Minimum age 4
• Under 18s must be accompanied by at least one adult. Maximum of three under 18s with one adult at any time. If there are two or more under 12s they must be accompanied by two over 18s at all times
• A good general level of fitness is required
• Participants must be able to swim and should be confident in the water
• Buoyancy aids provided and must be worn at all times
• Not suitable if you are pregnant or have a history of epilepsy

• Spectators are welcome to watch your departure

• Waterproof clothing, depending on the weather
• A spare change of clothes
• Food and water, drinks can be purchased from the onsite shop if required
• Footwear you don't mind getting wet and/or muddy
• Cap/hat to protect you from the sun and sun lotion
