Discover delicate and refined Japanese whisky on a tasting experience! Hosted by MAP Maison cocktail bar in Hackney, you'll get to taste and explore the world of whisky from the land of the rising sun - and it's quite an eye-opener!
Generally considered lighter and more fragrant than the peaty, deep golden whiskies from Scotland or Ireland, Japanese whisky is hugely popular in its native country. Now many of us in Europe are enjoying the fresh flavours of these aromatic whiskies from Japan. And they are especially good in cocktails.
The bartenders and mixologists at MAP Maison really know their stuff when it comes to Japanese whisky and they host these masterclasses with enthusiasm and passion. Just watching them making cocktails is amazing!
Introductions will be done over a welcome cocktail, which will be served with a sharing platter of tasty, bite-sized tapas. You'll then learn about the history of whisky and how it's produced, with reference in particular to the whiskies coming out of distilleries in Japan.
You will taste three different blended Japanese whiskies, including the number one seller Nikka Days, as well as Mars Kasei and Suntory Toki. You'll get to explore the flavours on the nose, the palate and the finish - and they are quite unique.
Then it's over to you to mix your very own cocktail using (amongst other ingredients), Japanese whisky. It's a great way to finish your masterclass and, of course, you get to drink your creation too!
MAP Maison has one of the largest collections of Japanese whisky in Europe and it's a really cool venue in East London for hosting a Japanese whisky tasting masterclass. It's not far from Haggerston overground station, so you can leave the car at home and enjoy your whiskies!
