Go skydiving in Nottingham and jump tandem from Langar Airfield! Situated between Nottingham and Grantham, this airfield, with easy access, a top team of parachute instructors and great views, has everything you need to do your first jump out of a plane.
Fourteen thousand feet. That's 4267m. That's 2.6 miles. That's how high you'll be jumping from on these tandem skydives over Nottingham's Langar airfield. It's pretty hard to picture just how high this is, but put it like this : it gives you 45-50 seconds of absolute freefall and around a five-minute descent with the parachute open, before you touch ground.
It's pretty incredible stuff this skydiving lark. And to be able to do it with just a minimal amount of training is amazing. It's all down the professionalism and organisation of this skydiving team at Langar. From the fact that they have not one, but two 15-seater planes operating, to the sheer number of fully qualified instructors they have on site, means lots of you get to jump and do it in considerable style.
We asked the Langar skydive team what advice they would give to a first-time skydiver and they simply said ‘Remember to breathe'! The rush of exiting the plane strapped to the front of your instructor, combined with the force of the wind and noise, seems to make us forget to do exactly that and we hold our breath. So don't be surprised if you're actually encouraged to scream as you go, as it means you're breathing out!
After your thrilling freefall, your instructor will deploy the parachute at about 5000ft. From then on it's a gentle float back down to the DZ. You might even have time to gather your thoughts and enjoy the awesome views and maybe even have a go at steering the canopy.
This well-established skydiving school in Nottingham has been operating jumps at Langar since the late 1970s and is British Skydiving affiliated. The team is well-known for being highly professional, but with a great sense of humour, which always helps to put you at ease. The school comes highly recommended, with many jumpers saying : ‘Don't think about it, just do it!'.
