What Can I Expect

A Somerset Cider & Cheese Balloon experience - perfect for foodies who yearn for a ride in a hot air balloon! We are offering vouchers for two, three or four people to be in the balloon together on an exclusive flight.

Combining wonderful local Somerset produce with a flight over some of the very countryside, where the cows graze and where the apples grow, these cheese and cider-themed hot balloon flights are brilliant gift choices.

Your voucher is valid for any of the launch sites within the three areas available. As all flights depend on the weather, it's your pilot who will decide the actual meeting and departure point just prior to your experience.

Of course, there's a lot to see from the balloon. From big country houses and cities, to lakes, hills and coastlines, this whole area in and around Somerset is wonderful to discover from your privileged position in the basket of the balloon.

If you're feeling energetic, volunteer to help with the inflating and deflating the balloon before and after your ride - it's great for finding out what it takes to get a balloon in the air and fun too.

As well as the excitement of your exclusive flight, there's also the food and drink. Somerset is synonymous with the golden bubbles of Cider and smooth, mellow cheeses, from Cheddar to Somerset Brie. You'll get to taste such products at your personal reception after the flight.

As well as the local cheeses to try and the cider to sip, you'll toast the day you went on a Somerset Cider and Cheese balloon experience with a glass of apple sparkling wine. And you even get to leave with a Thatcher's goodie bag!

What's Included

• Enjoy an exclusive hot air balloon ride
• Vouchers are available for 2, 3 or 4 passengers
• Flights are taken in a sport balloon at a launch site of your choice from a list of venues
• Welcome, introduction and safety briefing with your pilot
• Get involved with the rigging and inflation of the hot air balloon (optional)
• Assist with the packing up of the balloon (optional)

Area 1

• See Brunel's suspension bridge, the Georgian stone buildings of Bath and the picturesque lakes of the Chew valley
• Views stretch across to the Welsh mountains, the Westbury White Horse and Somerset's apple orchards

Area 2

• See the famous Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury Tor, the magnificent Mendip hills and the wildlife of the Somerset levels
• Views stretch out into the Bristol channel and down to the North Devon coastline

Area 3

• View the architectural beauty of the County towns many churches, the Wellington monument and many National Trust properties such as Fyne court, Barrington court and Montacute house
• Views extend down to the south coast, over the Quantock hills and across the south Somerset levels

When Is It Available

• Weekdays and weekends throughout the year
• During summer months evening flights are generally scheduled on weekdays with morning and evening flights available on weekends
• Winter flying can be more restricted due to unsettled weather conditions
• Meet just after sunrise (can be pretty early mid summer!)or a few hours before sunset.  Timings change as the length of the day changes

Suitable For

• Minimum age 6
• Under 15 must be accompanied by a participating adult
• Minimum height 4ft
• Please advise if any passengers are over 17st (108kg)
• Participants must have a good level of fitness and be agile enough to get in and out of the basket

Spectators

• Spectators are welcome to watch your departure with great photo opportunities

Anything Else

• Suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear should be worn
