Kids' fishing lessons at Swinton Park Estate! If your little one can hold a rod, they can learn to fish. These sessions are specifically for children up to the age of 16 (with parents welcome to tag along) and last for four hours.
The team at Swinton started these lessons for kids a few years ago and they have proved to be a big success. Group sizes are kept to a manageable size of around six children, with two coaches hosting.
The experience takes place on the training lake, which is located right in front of the Terrace restaurant of the Swinton Park hotel. The whole estate covers a whopping 20,000 acres, so being easy to reach is a definite bonus for those little legs!
The kids will start off with a chat about safety when you're next to water. Then they'll learn about fish welfare (it's important kids know how to safely reel in a catch and how to land a fish without harming it). After that, it's off to the banks of the lake to fish.
Kids absolutely love learning how to cast off, choose the flies, the best places to fish, how to know when you've got a bite, how to land a fish and what to do with the catch after. It's great fun and there's always a really good sense of camaraderie amongst the children.
All the gear the kids will need is included. A fishery ticket for the day of the lesson is provided, but all children taking part will need to have a fishing licence. These are free for juniors and can be obtained from the Government website mentioned in 'What's included'.
Perfect for siblings, a birthday party or just a weekend or holiday treat, these kids' fishing lessons at Swinton Park are a superb way to spend time outdoors - and you never know, angling could end up being a new hobby!
